Founded in December 1973, Eagle Insurance Limited commenced operations in January 1974. As one of Mauritius’ leading insurance providers, we offer comprehensive insurance solutions across all sectors of the economy. Our unique market position enables us to deliver substantial benefits to our customers, backed by extensive expertise and experience for ultimate peace of mind.
We serve both individual and corporate markets, offering a wide range of short-term insurance products including Car, Home, Travel, Personal, Accident, Health, Engineering, and Boat insurance. Our diverse customer base ranges from private individuals to SMEs and large corporations. Our financial stability is reinforced by a strong capital base, strong reinsurance arrangements, and expert investment management.
Shareholding Profile
We began as a joint venture between IBL LTD (80%), one of the largest groups in Mauritius, and South African Eagle Insurance Co Ltd, now known as Bryte Insurance Company Limited (20%).
Listed on the Official Market of the Stock Exchange of Mauritius in 1993, the shareholding profile changed to 60% equity for IBL Ltd. The remaining 40% is held by HWIC Asia Fund (39.12%) and the public (0.88%).

In 1996, we acquired a 15% stake in H.Savy Insurance Co. Ltd based in Seychelles, which was later increased to 20% in 2005. We also hold a stake in the shareholding of Specialty Risk Solutions Limited and more recently in Medscheme (Mtius) Limited.

Creation of Mauritius Eagle Insurance (MEI) located at Queen Street, Port-Louis with a Rs 1M subscribed capital, held by IBL (80%) and South African Eagle (20%). An initiative put to the credit of Colin Hare of IBL and Fred Haslett of South African Eagle (SAE)
1974
Start of Operations Mike Hepburn is the first General Manager of Mauritian Eagle Insurance
1975
The company moves into new premises at Dr Ferriere Street, Port-Louis

Launch of the Life Insurance product line

Listing on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius. The company’s listing on the Stock Exchange of Mauritius with 25% equity subscribed by the public. Celebration of the company’s 20 anniversary at La Pirogue Hotel
